Correctly measure firewood:
To do this, take several logs from a stack, as the moisture values within this stack of wood can vary. To be able to correctly measure the actual moisture value in the wood, the log should first be split in the middle. Then, the wood moisture meter is placed across the wood fiber and the moisture is measured at two points in the core.
Note: Measuring the moisture on the end faces of a log will not give a meaningful reading.
Evaluation:
Freshly cut wood has a moisture content of about 40 to 60 percent, it should be no more than 22 percent at the end for seasoned and dried firewood.
Even better, however, is a residual moisture content that lies between 8 and 16 percent. Because then the calorific value is at its highest.
