Short answer: The product is designed to operate for 10 years from the date of commissioning.
In principle, the DIN standard DIN 14676 (the so-called application standard for smoke detectors) stipulates that all smoke detectors must be replaced with new devices after 10 years and a maximum of six months.
In order to comply with this standard, we as the manufacturer specify a recommended replacement date on our products, such as the RM L 3100. This is based on the date of manufacture, as this is our only valid point of reference. However, the replacement period of 10 years and 6 months only starts from the date of commissioning. The RM L 3100 is designed to operate for 10 years. However, as we cannot know when our products are put into operation and want to provide customers with guidance on the product label, we calculate the replacement date from the date of manufacture.
If you want to determine the actual replacement date, make a note of the actual commissioning date on the back of the smoke alarm device and add the 10 years and 6 months to this. The smoke alarm device may be operated up to this calculated date, but no longer under any circumstances. You should therefore take care of the new smoke alarm device in advance.
Please note: The built-in battery is designed for 10 years. This means that you can operate the RM L 3100 for 10 years. If your RM L 3100 stops working before then, you can contact us as the manufacturer and have it replaced.
Note the following data on the smoke alarm device with a permanent marker:
Date of commissioning
Date of commissioning + 10 years = This is how long the RM L 3100 should function
Optional: Date of commissioning + 10 years and 6 months = This is the maximum time you may operate the smoke alarm device. (It is quite possible that the RM L 3100 will last longer than 10 years)
Note: Smoke alarms should be checked at least once a year. To do this, carry out a function test and check the smoke alarm for dirt and animals. Vacuum the smoke alarm with a vacuum cleaner.
