What does the red light on the brennenstuhl® HL 700 A hand lamp mean?

The red light is always on, even when fully charged. 
The red LED lights up from the very beginning as the very first LED, followed by the green lights.

If only the red LED is still lit and none of the green LEDs, the hand lamp must be charged.
