For comprehensive protection, smoke alarms should be installed in all rooms, corridors, storage areas, cellars and storerooms. In rooms over 40 m² or corridors longer than 10 m, the use of several smoke alarms is recommended.
2. you should at least meet the minimum protection requirements and equip every bedroom and children's room as well as all corridors that serve as escape routes with a smoke alarm.
3. for optimum protection, fit at least one smoke alarm in all rooms and corridors.
4. as smoke rises upwards, smoke alarms must always be installed on the ceiling, preferably in the middle of the room in a horizontal position. Please note that a distance of at least 0.5 m must be maintained to all furnishings on the ceiling and to the walls.
5. if ceiling installation is not possible (e.g. in roof peaks), the smoke alarm device can be installed on the wall. The distance to the ceiling should be between 30 and 50 cm.
6 If the room height is more than 6 m, use an additional smoke alarm device.
7. in corridors and hallways with a maximum width of 3 m, the distance between two smoke alarms must not exceed 15 m. The distance between the detector and the end face of the corridor or hallway must not exceed 7.5 m. One smoke alarm must be installed at each intersection, junction and corner of corridors and hallways.
8. in the case of galleries, an additional smoke alarm is required underneath if the gallery has a total area of more than 16 m² and is more than 2 m long and wide.
9. in rooms with a sloping roof, if the ceiling inclination is 20° to the horizontal, the smoke alarm must be installed at a distance of 50-100 cm from the highest point. If the horizontal ceiling is less than 1 m wide, install the smoke alarm device on the sloping roof. If the horizontal ceiling is wider than 1 m, install the smoke alarm in the middle of the horizontal ceiling.
Installation locations to avoid are e.g: Environments that install near air conditioning and ventilation inlets and outlets, air conditioning systems and fans.
2. in bathrooms, shower rooms or in rooms where the temperature exceeds 39 °C or falls below 0 °C.
3. not in the apex of a roof, as smoke-free air could accumulate in the event of a fire.
4. in kitchens, garages, laundry rooms or boiler rooms, cooking fumes, vehicle exhaust fumes, dust and moisture can trigger a false alarm.
5. in very dusty or dirty areas. Dirt and dust can accumulate in the smoke alarm device and impair its functional reliability.
