Cable rewinders such as cable drums or cable boxes become extremely hot in the core of the reeled cable. For this reason, temperature switches (overheating protection) are prescribed which interrupt the current at approx. 65 degrees C. Without this overheating protection, the cable insulation can melt and lead to destruction or fire of the rewinder. To prevent unnecessary premature disconnection of power, the cable reel should be unwound.
