With the brennenstuhl® Moisture Meter FM-01, you can check the moisture content of softwood and hardwood as well as various building materials such as concrete, screed, mortar, plaster, or brick. For a meaningful measurement result, it is important to select the measurement mode appropriate for the material before measuring.
How to perform a measurement
- Remove the protective cap from the measuring pins.
- Press and hold the ON/OFF button until the display turns on.
- Use the MODE button to select the appropriate measurement mode for the material to be tested.
- Bring the two measuring pins into contact with the material or insert them into the material according to the application.
- Read the moisture value on the LCD display.
The FM-01 displays the measured moisture value as a percentage by weight.
Which measurement mode should I select?
The FM-01 differentiates between several material groups:
- SOFT WOOD: e.g., beech, spruce, larch, birch, cherry, or walnut
- HARD WOOD: e.g., oak, pine, maple, ash, douglas fir, or meranti
- BUILDING MATERIALS A: cement mortar layer and concrete
- BUILDING MATERIALS B: anhydrite mortar
- BUILDING MATERIALS C: cement mortar
- BUILDING MATERIALS D: lime mortar and plaster
- BUILDING MATERIALS E: brick
Pressing the MODE button repeatedly switches between the respective measurement modes.
How does the HOLD function work?
For hard-to-reach or poorly visible measuring points, you can freeze the displayed value with the HOLD button. The measurement value then remains on the display and can be conveniently read after removing the device.
Press the HOLD button again to release the freeze.
Tips for the most reliable measurement results
If possible, check multiple measuring points, as moisture can be unevenly distributed within a material. For wood, the manual recommends measuring along the grain.
The FM-01 is intended for measuring moisture content near the surface. The measurement values may vary due to the material, measurement environment, or material batch.
Always replace the protective cap after use, as the measuring pins can cause injuries. The device automatically switches off after about five minutes of inactivity.
